The Owners Expect – Tottenham vs. Liverpool 1.20pm KO

18 Sep

It seemed at the end of last season a resurgent Liverpool under the reinvigorated Kenny Dalglish were in a duel with Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham for who wouldn’t finish 5th and be rewarded with the seemingly poisoned chalice of the Europe League.  This season both teams will be pushing hard for a top 4 finihs and Champions League football  which both sets of owners will be expect for the investment in both squads.

In the last 12 games of the 10/11 season Tottenham started to struggle in the finishing straight for the Champions League places picking
up 15 out 36 points which included 6 draws, compared to 20 from Liverpool which included 6 wins with notable victory over Chelsea and United.    What was key  was Tottenham’s penultimate game of the season which saw Tottenham beat Liverpool 0-2 at Anfield in a game dominated by the match officials.

Move forward to the start of 11/12 season and Liverpool have started the season with a lot of hope after a major clear out which saw 11
players from the Benitez-Hodgson era leave and over £50m spent on new reinforcements added to the previous £50m spent on Suarez and Carroll in January.  Tottenham’s summer wasn’t quite so smooth with the highly covered pursuit of Modric from Chelsea and apparent player unrest which was seen through comments in the press by the likes of Gareth Bale.  However Redknapp with the transfer
window now firmly shut will be happy with his dealings bringing in last season PL player of the year Scott Parker and the undoubted talents of Adebayor both of whom made an instant impact last week against Wolves.

Head to Head

Suarez vs. Kaboul

As highlighted Tottenham are weak between the FB and CB area which is the area that Suarez occupies for Liverpool.  I would expect to see Suarez lining up against Kaboul who while winning a large number of his tackles (9/11) his clearances are very inconsistent and has had 3 of the goals conceded by Tottenham down his side.  Suarez loves to take players on in and around the 18 yrd box with no less than 10 against Stoke.  For me this battle will decide the match.

Modric vs. Adam

Two fantastic passers of the ball Modric and Adam are the heart beat of their respective teams who are likely to field a more traditional
4-4-2.  With Adam now settling alongside Lucas in the middle he is finally starting to find his passing and shooting range in the attacking 3rd for Liverpool however defensively he is still suspect conceding 6 fouls in his half.  Adam has had the most shots for Liverpool with 12 and will fancy his chances if given the space to day. Ironically Modric who is probably considered more of an attacking player has only had 2 shots in 3 games.  Without Van Der Vaart, Modric will be required to carry more of the attacking threat for Tottenham with Parker providing the cover.  Whichever player dominates will probably see their team win.

Prediction 2-2

There will be goals in this game as both teams look attack.  A lot will relay on the finishing of Suarez and the midfield battle.  Adebeyur will be a threat to a slowing Carragher with Both or Tottenham’s full backs pushing on to give space for Downing and Henderson to exploit.

Cheers mate! Unfortunately it was too true with the battle between Modric and Adam. He does worry me with his ill disciplien. He reminds me of Lucas when he first started possibly trying to hard to prove he’s a liverpool player. YNWA
